2021 Faddeev Medal announcement
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2021 "Faddeev Medal" Prize. We are seeking nominations of scientists who have advanced the field of few-body physics significantly, either through ground-breaking research or due to crucial progress achieved over the course of their career.
The Faddeev medal was inaugurated in 2016 by the Topical Group on Few-Body Systems & Multiparticle Dynamics (GFB) of the American Physical Society and the European Research Committee on Few-Body Problems in Physics (ERCFBP) to recognize distinguished achievements in few-body physics. It is named in honor of distinguished scientist Ludwig D. Faddeev (1934-2017). It was awarded for the first time in 2018 to Vitaly Efimov and Rudi Grimm for “the theoretical discovery of a series of weakly-bound three-body quantum states known as Efimov states” and “in recognition of his ground-breaking experiments confirming the Efimov effect”, respectively.
The nomination deadline for the 2021 “Faddeev Medal” is April 15, 2021. Please send the nomination packet as a single pdf file to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.<mailto:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>. Alternatively, send your suggestion for a potential nominator to the same email address by January 15, 2021. The selection committee especially encourages nominations of women and members of underrepresented minority groups.
The nomination packet should include (1) a nominating statement; (2) the statement of support for the nomination by the co-nominator; (3) a suggested citation of up to 100 words; (4) a CV of the candidate; and (5) up to two additional support letters.
The prize consists of a medal and an invited talk at the 23rd International Few-body Conference to be given during the award ceremony.
Sincerely,
Doerte Blume, University of Oklahoma, Chair of the Selection Committee
Arnoldas Deltuva, Vilnius University, Member of the Selection Committee
Rudi Grimm, University of Innsbruck, Member of the Selection Committee
Gastao Krein, Universidade Estadual Paulista Sao Paulo, Member of the Selection Committee
Kimiko Sekiguchi, Tohoku University, Member of the Selection Committee
Third edition of the prize for YOUNG researchers
Dear Colleague,
we would like to announce the third edition of the prize for YOUNG researchers, in order to promote fundamental research on few-body problems in physics and chemistry. As in the first two editions, this third edition will be sponsored by Springer, publisher of Few-Body Systems. We ask you to send nominations (a letter of nomination and the CV) of candidates by MARCH 1st 2019 to Dr. A. Kievsky (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) detailing the significance of the contributions of the nominee to the field.
The first two awards have been given in 2013 and 2016 during the 22nd and 23rd European Conferences on Few-Body Problems in Physics in Cracow and Aarhus respectively. As in those cases, the 2019 award will be given during the next European Few-Body Conference in Surrey (UK). For the occasion, the winners will have the opportunity to present their works.
The Selection committee for this edition is composed by
- D. Fedorov (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
- N. Kalantar-Nayestanaki (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
- A. Kievsky (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
- S. Kistryn (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

Faddeev Medal 2018
Vitaly Efimov and Rudolf Grimm Win Faddeev Medal
The international panel of experts, chaired by G. Orlandini (Trento), has selected the winners of the 2018 Faddeev Medal award. They are:
- Vitaly Efimov: "For the theoretical discovery of a series of weakly-bound three-body quantum states known as Efimov states."
- Rudolf Grimm: "In recognition of his ground-breaking experiments confirming the Efimov effect."
24th European Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics (EFB24)
We are pleased to announce that the next European Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics (EFB24) will be held at the University of Surrey, Guildford, United Kingdom, from 2 to 6 September 2019. This will be the 24th edition of this conference series which has previously taken place in Aarhus (2016), Krakow (2013), Salamanca (2010) and Pisa (2007).
Like the previous conferences, this conference will give a possibility to present and discuss recent developments in the field of few-body systems - that is, systems which can be understood in terms of a few effective degrees of freedom. This Conference will focus on recent developments in the field of few-body systems, in areas including but not limited to particle, nuclear, atomic, molecular, and condensed-matter physics, as well as astrophysics, astronomy, mathematics, and chemistry.
The website of EFB24 can be found here.
Further information will appear on the website during 2018.
